Running the New York City Marathon

The story of our first Team McGraw marathon runners continues to resonate as two of our runners, Dean Brown and Jeff McMahon, share their thoughts on running and the impact this event has had on our mission of brain tumor research with Inside Texas Running magazine.

In some ways, they’re stereotypical runners.  One hated running growing up and the other grew up running.  Both have previously run a marathon.  They’re coworkers who found their way to the New York City Marathon this past November and participated in the race on behalf of a charity.

Dean Brown, originally from Edinburg, about four hours south of San Antonio, says, “Music was my whole world (growing up).  I hated running.  When it came around time for the physical fitness test and we had to run the mile and do pushups, I hated it.”

Jeff McMahon says, “Originally, my dad was a runner.  I would go out and run with him.  I think the first race I ran was the Turkey Trot in Dallas, before it was in Dallas, back when it was at White rock Lake, back in about 1975 or ’76.”  He also ran track in junior high school.
