Art Award Goes to Foundation “Head”

When asked to flex his artistic muscle and create a one-of-a-kind head for a charity art exhibit on behalf of the Tug McGraw Foundation, Dancehall Doctor Dean Brown didn’t know where to begin.

“I wasn’t really sure what I could do to a Styrofoam head that would make someone say, ‘Wow! I gotta have that!’” said Brown. “But I knew it had to be special.”

Well, he succeeded. Brown’s unique design idea – a conglomeration of natural elements including beans, rice, and lentils – recently won 3rd place out of 50 entries in the Pat Penny Memorial Art Show in Fort Worth, Texas.

The judged art contest and exhibition is in support of the Ladies of Legacy Foundation of Dallas, an organization that offers support to patients with brain and spinal cord tumors.

Currently all the entries are scheduled for exhibition at both the Uncommon Angles Gallery and Baylor All Saints Hospital, both in Fort Worth. They will be on display from May 1-31, after which time all the heads will be put on auction to raise money in the fight against brain cancer.

Brown is thrilled to know that the funds raised from his creation will go to benefit the Tug McGraw Foundation. “I’m just honored to be a participant,” said Brown, “and I hope my small contribution helps to change someone’s life.”
